Recommendation: Tycoon by Katy Evans

Recommendation: Tycoon by Katy Evans

Once I started Katy Evans’ Tycoon, I could not put it down to stop—or even to pause—reading it. Whether I was standing in line at Costco or attempting to make dinner, my eyes were glued to the page. Evans blew me away with her remarkable writing and flawless story development, and this second-chance romance is utterly hypnotic.   Aaric Christos was falling in love with Bryn Kelly when they were friends in high school, but their relationship never moved past the platonic stage. Christos’s family moved away, and he’s achieved extraordinary success in the ten years since they last saw each other, but he has never forgotten Bryn. He’s a business tycoon in New York City who invests in companies that others believe are […]

Recommendation: Scored by Marquita Valentine

Recommendation: Scored by Marquita Valentine

I am a little late to the party as I just discovered Marquita Valentine this year, but I am quickly making up for lost time and reading her backlist and newest releases as soon as I can. Scored is another sexy, fun and entertaining romance, and I am officially a MV die-hard fan. Dallas Drake is a famous, All-American tight end for the Raleigh Renegades, and he’s charming, sexy and a playboy. He meets librarian Paige Owens while scoping out rental space for a fundraising event at the library where she works. He’s immediately attracted to Paige and sets out to wow her with his signature moves, but she’s not impressed. She doesn’t date athletes, especially ones who are known to be players. Don’t get me wrong: […]

Reader’s POV & Must-Reads: Braving the ugly cry is worth it for these romances

Reader’s POV & Must-Reads: Braving the ugly cry is worth it for these romances

I adore romances in which the characters are given a second chance at love, but I dread the ugly cry these emotional stories often induce. Consider me vain, but it’s rarely a good look. Nevertheless, I’ll accept the sniveling, facial contortions and inhuman sounds in order to read these sorts of inspiring love stories that reaffirm the view that everyone can have a happily-ever-after. Whether it’s a story of former lovers reunited, or of finding love again with someone new, the progression from unimaginable heartbreak to restorative love is profoundly romantic. It even makes crying feel like a beautiful experience. These must-read romances might induce tears, but they will also nourish the soul. Easy Nights by Kristen Proby Easy Nights is a powerful and sublimely […]

Recommendation: Salvaged by Jay Crownover

Recommendation: Salvaged by Jay Crownover

If you are a fan of angst and second chances, you will fall in love with Salvaged. This book broke my heart, but Ms. Crownover mended it back together with her powerful and emotional writing. I felt breathless while reading it and could not put this love story down.   Hudson Wheeler has recently been dealt some devastating blows – his fiancée has fallen in love with someone else and left him, and she’s announced she’s pregnant with his child. They’ve been together forever, and he never imagined a future without her. He’s not sure he’s ready to be a father, and he grapples with his new reality feeling lost and hurt.   Poppy Wheeler knows Hudson through mutual friends and recognizes he’s in pain. […]

Recommendation: Bad Penny by Staci Hart

Recommendation: Bad Penny by Staci Hart

Bad Penny isn’t the type of romance I usually go for because the heroine is much bolder and more uninhibited than those I typically gravitate towards. Perhaps it’s my southern upbringing, but I unconsciously tend to choose heroines that are excessively well-mannered, slightly demure and less overtly sexual. I’ve recently made an effort to read more romances that are outside my comfort zone, and the heroine in Bad Penny is one of my bigger steps outside the box. I’m glad I pushed myself, because I ended up loving the book and admiring the feisty and self-assured Penny, who is beautifully comfortable in her own skin. Penny isn’t interested in love or even dating; rather she’s unapologetically into no-strings hook-ups and doesn’t hesitate to have sex […]

Recommendation: Revenge by Lexi Blake

Recommendation: Revenge by Lexi Blake

I’ve anticipated Revenge and Drew Lawless’s story, and neither disappointed. Revenge has intrigue, a little action, and explosive sexual chemistry, and you’ll be on the edge of your seat waiting to see how the mystery and romance play out. Drew is a controlled, sexy, tech nerd, who has a lethal side but can also be tender and compassionate.   Drew wants revenge for his father’s death, and he also wants feisty journalist Shelby Gates. He’s used to getting what he wants, and he brings Shelby to him by hiring her to help him investigate the murder. She’ll get the story and be able to write a book if she agrees to work with him; therefore, she’s easily convinced to accept, even though Drew requires that she live with […]

Recommendation: Too Close to Call by Tessa Bailey

Recommendation: Too Close to Call by Tessa Bailey

I’ve said this before – I love Tessa Bailey’s Romancing the Clarksons! It is one of my favorite series, and I’m always when there is a new addition. Too Close to Call is book 3½ in the series and a part of the 1001 Dark Nights project. They are all stand-alones, so you do not have to read them in order, but you need to be reading this series, if you are not!   Too Close to Call is second-chance romance, and it has all the sexy goodness and emotional love story that you’d expect from Tessa Bailey. Kyler Tate and Bree Sutton were young but desperately in love and planning their future when Bree broke up with Kyle just as he was leaving for college, […]

Recommendation: I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

Recommendation: I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

Here’s the deal: I love – as in really, really love – Lauren Layne’s Stiletto and Oxford series, and I am ecstatic whenever there is a new book out. I know it means that I’ll be able to catch up with some of my favorite fictional characters, who now feel like old friends, and that I will get to return to the world Ms. Layne has created, one I simply adore. Frankly, I was half in love with I Knew You Were Trouble, the fourth book in the Oxford arm of the series, before I read the first page. If you haven’t read all the books in both series, you’ll be fine jumping in at any point, because they are all stand-alone reads. Of course, […]

A Reader’s POV & Must-Reads: Sleep’s overrated with these romances

A Reader’s POV & Must-Reads: Sleep’s overrated with these romances

Post appeared @ USA Today’s Happy Ever After My eyes are bloodshot, my body aches and I’m a little nauseated. Do I have the flu? Nope. I’m suffering from lack of sleep due to Can’t Put My Book Down Syndrome. It’s a sneaky little ailment that strikes when you start a book that you can’t stop reading until the wee hours of the morning, even knowing you’ll feel lousy the next day. It’s a self-inflicted illness, but it’s worth every lost minute of REM sleep, because it means you’re reading an outstanding book that you just cannot put down. These must-read romances should be picked up only when you don’t have anything important to do the next day. Real Dirty and Real Sexy by Meghan […]

USA Today’s Happy Ever After: Kendall Ryan’s Imperfect Love Kindle World

USA Today’s Happy Ever After: Kendall Ryan’s Imperfect Love Kindle World

Sometimes we fall in love with a series and never want it to end, and I am not above e-mailing an author to ask her to keep a series going. I may have sent a request (or two) to Kendall Ryan begging her to continue the Imperfect Love series, which includes The Fix Up and Hitched, Volume 1-3. These romantic comedies are entertaining, swoon-worthy love stories filled with laughs and punctuated by smoldering heat, and I didn’t want to say goodbye to the characters that I’d come to adore, which is why I am ecstatic that Imperfect Love will live on through a Kindle World. The Imperfect Love Kindle World debuts today with eight authors (Mandi Beck, Kelly Elliott, T Gephart, Kim Karr, Cora Kenborn, […]
