Recommendation: I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

Recommendation: I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

Here’s the deal: I love – as in really, really love – Lauren Layne’s Stiletto and Oxford series, and I am ecstatic whenever there is a new book out. I know it means that I’ll be able to catch up with some of my favorite fictional characters, who now feel like old friends, and that I will get to return to the world Ms. Layne has created, one I simply adore. Frankly, I was half in love with I Knew You Were Trouble, the fourth book in the Oxford arm of the series, before I read the first page. If you haven’t read all the books in both series, you’ll be fine jumping in at any point, because they are all stand-alone reads. Of course, […]

A Reader’s POV & Must-Reads: Sleep’s overrated with these romances

A Reader’s POV & Must-Reads: Sleep’s overrated with these romances

Post appeared @ USA Today’s Happy Ever After My eyes are bloodshot, my body aches and I’m a little nauseated. Do I have the flu? Nope. I’m suffering from lack of sleep due to Can’t Put My Book Down Syndrome. It’s a sneaky little ailment that strikes when you start a book that you can’t stop reading until the wee hours of the morning, even knowing you’ll feel lousy the next day. It’s a self-inflicted illness, but it’s worth every lost minute of REM sleep, because it means you’re reading an outstanding book that you just cannot put down. These must-read romances should be picked up only when you don’t have anything important to do the next day. Real Dirty and Real Sexy by Meghan […]

USA Today’s Happy Ever After: Kendall Ryan’s Imperfect Love Kindle World

USA Today’s Happy Ever After: Kendall Ryan’s Imperfect Love Kindle World

Sometimes we fall in love with a series and never want it to end, and I am not above e-mailing an author to ask her to keep a series going. I may have sent a request (or two) to Kendall Ryan begging her to continue the Imperfect Love series, which includes The Fix Up and Hitched, Volume 1-3. These romantic comedies are entertaining, swoon-worthy love stories filled with laughs and punctuated by smoldering heat, and I didn’t want to say goodbye to the characters that I’d come to adore, which is why I am ecstatic that Imperfect Love will live on through a Kindle World. The Imperfect Love Kindle World debuts today with eight authors (Mandi Beck, Kelly Elliott, T Gephart, Kim Karr, Cora Kenborn, […]

Recommendation: Clemency by Leah Parker

Recommendation: Clemency by Leah Parker

I have a hard time trying debut authors, because my favorite authors write so many books that I barely have time to keep up with them. But I am trying to branch out more, and I am really glad that I did and read Leah Parker’s debut novel, Clemency. It has great suspense and a slow burn, well-paced romance with engaging characters, and she writes with the skill of a seasoned author.   Gaia Terrone meets Quillen Jacobs on the day of her best friend’s and his cousin’s funeral. They’re automatically drawn to each other, although Gaia is typically guarded and avoids new people. Actually, she barely tolerates people and avoids friendships; she’s a bit of a curmudgeon but has reason to be. She and Quillen end […]

Recommendation: Sweet Torment by Georgia Cates

Recommendation: Sweet Torment by Georgia Cates

Georgia Cates’s Sweet Torment is a sexy and sweet forbidden romance. Claudia has been in love with her older brother’s best friend, Bram, for almost her entire life, but he’s never treated her as anything but a little sister. She’s seventeen now and a senior in high school, and she’s undergone a makeover that makes Bram notice her as a woman. He suddenly finds himself attracted to Claudia, and he’s tortured when he realizes it. Bram is six years older than Claudia; therefore, it would be technically illegal for him to get sexually involved with her. He also doesn’t want to risk losing his friendship with her brother or the trust of her parents; therefore, he tries to stay away from her and deny […]

Recommendation: My Best Friend’s Ex by Meghan Quinn

Recommendation: My Best Friend’s Ex by Meghan Quinn

If you like your men broody, you’ll love Meghan Quinn’s My Best Friend’s Ex, because Tucker Jameson is living in a haze of hurt and angst that will break your heart and leave you wishing you could dull his pain. He and his girlfriend broke up after she had miscarriage two years ago, and he hasn’t been able to get over the traumatic experience. He thought he had a set family and future when found out he was having a baby, and he’s not sure if he’ll ever find happiness again now that his dreams have been dismantled. He works hard at his job in construction and tries to deal with the pain, but he’s living a solitary lifestyle without much joy. Tucker runs into […]

Recommendation: Feel Me by Cecy Robson

Recommendation: Feel Me by Cecy Robson

Cecy Robson always writes entertaining, sexy romances, they also have great messages for women. She often tackles tough subjects (sexual abuse, domestic violence) eloquently and thoughtfully, and her female characters are some of the strongest and most admirable women. Her heroes might be powerful, handsome and irresistible, but her heroines are, too, and they go toe-to-toe, round for round with these men as their equals in every way. Feel Me is an exceptional book, and Ms. Robson is on my auto-buy list. Melissa Fenske is a successful lawyer who works for in the Districted Attorney’s office representing sexual abuse and domestic violence victims in the Victim Services unit. She’s passionate and brilliant at her job, and she puts the clients first. She had her own difficult […]

Recommendation: The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn

Recommendation: The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband by Julia Quinn

Julia Quinn is one of my favorite authors. She always writes great romances with entertaining plots, endearing characters, and beautiful love stories, and The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband has all this and more.   Cecilia Harcourt’s brother, Thomas, was stationed in the American colonies when the rebellion broke out. The two siblings had always maintained steady communication through letters while he was away, but their letters took on a new significance as the danger of war increases. Cecilia has the reassurance that her brother is well, and he has bittersweet reminders of home. Thomas shares her letters with his closest friend, Edward Rokesby, and Edward slowly becomes a part of the conversation allowing he and Clara get to know each other.   When a letter […]

A Reader’s POV & Must-Reads from USA Today’s HEA

A Reader’s POV & Must-Reads from USA Today’s HEA

See post on USA Today’s Happy Ever After.   Book boyfriends are great, but I am always on the lookout for my next book BFF. These are the characters I’d love to be friends with, and I’m sure they’d love to be friends with me, too. I know we’d instantly click and be best friends, and I imagine we’d have  blast together, support each other through thick and thin and get matching BFF tattoos. Well, we would do all this if they wer real people and not my adult version of imaginary friends. I’ve recently made a few new book BFFs in these must-read romances, and I think you’ll want to meet them, too. Buns by Alice Clayton Alice Clayton blends romance, humor and heat […]

Recommendation: Sexy Jerk by Kim Karr

Recommendation: Sexy Jerk by Kim Karr

Kim Karr’s Sexy Jerk is a drop-dead sexy frenemies-to-lovers romance that you do not want to miss. Tess Winters and Nick Carrington have always rubbed each other the wrong way since they met when their best friends fell in love and married. They have always had an antagonistic, flirty push-and-pull relationship full of funny, sarcastic verbal jabs and even a mooning episode (courtesy of Nick), but they have managed to co-exist when they are around each other. It was easy to do when they saw each other infrequently, because Tess lived in New York and had a boyfriend, but now she is back living in Chicago and single.   Things between them start to get A LOT more interesting. They are both the godparents of their […]
